Biden, Japan’s Kishida Push for Closer Ties to Counter China

President Biden huddled with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida as the two leaders sought to strengthen their security ties in the Pacific as a counterweight to China. 

With Biden welcoming Kishida to the White House on Wednesday, the two countries outlined plans to upgrade U.S.-Japanese military cooperation amid concerns about North Korea’s nuclear program and China’s effort to extend its influence across the Pacific.
