7.6 magnitude quake strikes off the Philippines; no tsunami threat to Hawaii

MANILA >> A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.6 struck Saturday night off the coast of the southern Philippine island of Mindanao. A tsunami warning was issued for areas near the epicenter but the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center on Oahu said there was no threat to Hawaii from the powerful quake or its strong aftershocks.
